There’s a debate in the beauty world about whether eye creams are worthwhile. Some people think it’s unnecessary to buy a separate eye cream and just use their usual face serum and moisturizer around the eyes. Others, like me, prefer having a specific product for that area.
I have two main reasons for using a distinct eye cream. First, I need clear instructions to actually follow through with something. If someone told me to clean my car, I would likely take a bucket of soapy water, scrub the car all over, rinse it off, and clean the wheels, grill, and windows. However, a professional valet would likely find this method lacking since different parts of the car require specific cleaning products. Similarly, skincare needs vary across different facial areas; the skin around the eyes is thinner and drier. My regular moisturizers don’t always suit this area, and some are too rich, causing irritation.
I also use different products for specific areas like the lips and eyes because they need a unique formulation. For example, a lip mask might be too greasy for the face but perfect for lips, and I look for a nourishing yet non-greasy product for my eyes.
Moreover, having a dedicated product encourages me to use it correctly. If I have a bucket of water and a range of specific cleaning products for my car, I’ll use them as instructed. The same goes for skincare; having both a face cream and an eye cream prompts me to apply them thoughtfully, focusing on the delicate eye area.
When asked if eye creams are worth it, I usually point out that it depends on the product. Some brands just repackage face creams at a higher price, which doesn’t provide any extra benefit. I prefer products specifically formulated for the eye area.
Many face creams and serums work well around the eyes. For instance, my friend finds La Roche-Posay’s Redermic-R range effective, but she prefers using the facial treatment over the eye cream version. For me, a good eye cream should have the right texture—nourishing but not greasy—and target concerns like fine lines, which are more bothersome to me than dark circles.
Currently, I’m testing various eye creams, so expect reviews soon. However, here are a few recommendations if you’re looking for something effective:
– Eucerin’s Hyaluron Filler eye cream is moisturizing, non-greasy, and includes SPF15.
– Pai Skincare’s Echium eye cream is perfect for sensitive undereye areas, especially after photoshoots.
– Elemental Herbology’s Elixir keeps my skin hydrated all day.
– Bioderma’s Sensibio is affordable and great for sensitive skin around the eyes.
– Anne Semonin’s Eye Miracle works wonders on fine lines, though it’s a pricey option.
– Zelens Triple Action Eye Cream and Aveda’s ultra-hydrating Botanical Kinetics Eye Cream are also worth checking out.
These suggestions should give you a good starting point if you’re looking to pamper your under-eye area.
