I had quite the surprise this morning when I opened the dryer to find my favorite jumper had shrunk down to a third of its original size. Mr. AMR, in his usual fashion, had tossed all the wet clothes into the dryer without checking them first. Now, I don’t want to criticize Mr. AMR’s housekeeping skills—he’s definitely better than I am at keeping things organized and on top of chores—but the shrinking of my beloved jumper surely deserves some attention.
The jumper in question is the Lindsey Rib Stitch from AND/OR at John Lewis. I got it on a shoot back in September and have been practically living in it ever since. I love its color, the relaxed fit, and how it’s thick and chunky without feeling heavy or restrictive. It’s great the way it covers my hips, and I love that the central rib detail keeps everything in place.
Fortunately, for Mr. AMR, I found that the rib stitch was still available on John Lewis when I immediately checked online after the mishap. It was even on sale for £40 instead of the usual £78. I was almost convinced to buy two, but my cousin Anna talked me out of it. Though, after what happened, I’m thinking there might be something to buying doubles.
Mr. AMR suggested I dry clean my special clothes instead of washing them at home. His logic was, “If you don’t want your clothes ruined, don’t put them in the wash.” I find this advice about as practical as saying, “If you don’t want to be kicked, don’t get in bed.” Using the washing machine is just part of life, like expecting not to be kicked in bed. It just requires a bit of care when moving wet clothes to the dryer, sorting through for woollens and anything delicate or sparkly.
In fact, I shrunk one of my sparkly tops just last week, and it came out too small even for Angelica! Mr. AMR doesn’t know about that one, though. He’s kind of in “domestic debt” to me now, which means I might be able to ask him to do something I’d rather avoid. So, let’s keep that a secret.
You can still find the Lindsey Rib Stitch Jumper online for £40. It also comes in red, but I skipped that one as it doesn’t suit me. However, it’s a lovely shade for the festive season!
