Here’s a look at my current makeup routine, perfect for the summer with an ultra-glowy foundation that’s lightweight and non-greasy, plus my all-time favorite mascara. Let me walk you through it step by step, but don’t forget to check out the video if you want to see the products in action.
Skin Prep:
I prepped my skin using some products I found in my room at High Road House, a Soho House hotel in Chiswick. This is the third time I’ve come across these Soho Skin products, and they seem to be testing them on guests before officially selling them. They’re ideal for travelers who enjoy a touch of luxury. The textures are great—hydrating without being too heavy. In the video, I use the eye cream, serum, and lip balm. Since I was heading to Wimbledon, I applied Anthelios UVMune 400 SPF50 generously. Being a guest of La Roche-Posay made this sunscreen an appropriate choice. It’s a favorite of mine because it’s lightweight and offers strong UV protection.
Foundation:
I’ve been loving Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation. It’s a sheer, lightweight fluid that hydrates and gives your skin a beautiful sheen. Its convenient packaging makes it perfect for travel or tossing in your purse. I typically use shade 5, though the range is narrower than other foundations from Tilbury. However, its sheerness allows for some flexibility, so an exact match isn’t necessary. To set my foundation, I’ve started using powder more, especially when I’m in the city. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette gives a “lit from within” effect that’s subtle, with no glitter. The palette’s finish is so natural, it doesn’t look like powder once applied.
Bronzer and Blush:
For bronzing, I’m using the Filmstar Bronze and Glow from Tilbury along with a new cream bronzer I’ll cover separately. I apply the Filmstar bronzer under my cheekbones and blend it well. I prefer avoiding harsh contour lines, as they can look artificial and aging. A well-blended look adds glamour and a hint of bronze—if you want sparkle, just apply it to the cheekbones for a glamorous red-carpet effect. For blush, I use Bare Minerals’ Gen Nude, though it’s being discontinued. Any pretty pink shade works, especially if you’re pairing it with a pink lipstick for a cohesive look.
Eyes:
I’ve played with two cream shadow sticks—By Terry Ombre Blackstar in “Frozen Quartz” on the lids, and Vieve Eye Wand in Mahogany in the corners. I blend the shadows upwards to naturally lift my eyes. The video is a great reference for this technique. My go-to mascara is L’Oreal’s Telescopic, known for its fine comb that defines lashes without clumps. It leaves lashes looking longer, blacker, and separated.
Brows:
For my brows, I rely on Benefit’s Gimme Brow in shade 1. It adds fullness and sets them in place. I always brush upwards for a fuller look, wiping off excess product from the brush beforehand.
Lips:
I adore a lipliner by Nip+Fab in shade 03, Caramel, although it’s been hard to find online. I pair it with Bobbi Brown’s Almost Pink lipstick, but I’ve noticed it’s also scarce. Solid lipsticks seem to be less trendy, while I have received many lip oils, glosses, and tinted balms.
Brushes:
I often forget to mention my brushes: A large powder brush from Chantecaille and a smaller one from Bobbi Brown, a Real Techniques 200 for foundation, and a variety for my eyes. My KitCo 127 is great for blending, and the Zoeva brushes for detailed work.
