I’ve been doing some shopping, which can be pretty risky. Honestly, I return a lot of what I purchase: out of every twenty things I order online (much to the dismay of Mr. AMR, who has to navigate around piles of ASOS bags and shoe boxes for weeks), I only keep one or two items. It might not be a stellar success rate, but it’s better than trying stuff on in stores while juggling a toddler or baby.
Let’s dive into the gems from my latest shopping spree—the perfect “what to wear” guide as we transition from summer to autumn. Given the recent rainy, chilly weather, these outfits are quite timely.
First up is a lovely floral mini-dress from Zara that’s become a new favorite. I probably need a size bigger (this one’s a small, and it’s a bit tight on my chest), but the fabric is soft, the cut is great, and the length gives that flattering “mini” look without being too revealing.
I’m pairing this dress with my trusty old Mulberry Lily bag and some beautiful wedges from LK Bennett. These shoes give a leg-lengthening effect while staying sturdy—a perfect combo in my book.
Moving on, there’s this relaxed shirtdress from H&M that you need to snap up fast if you’re interested. It’s easygoing and comfy for those rare hot days, but can be easily dressed up with some flashy accessories.
I’m currently loving the Cecilia shoes from LK Bennett in soft gold leather with a manageable heel. They remind me of a mix of Studio 54 and a Grecian goddess. I’ve been strutting around in these heels, mixing them with everything from skinny jeans to my long black dressing gown. It feels very Hollywood glam!
For a casual look, there’s a fun mini-dress from ASOS. It’s a bit short at the back, but I threw on a large cardigan over it, making it feel more comfortable and relaxed. Adding black opaque tights might push the look a bit too far into autumn territory for a summer post, though!
Pairing feminine prints with chunky knitwear is a great way to extend your summer wardrobe into chillier months. I love wearing dresses with oversized cardigans—it’s similar to rocking a party dress beneath a parka, Kate Moss style.
For a stylish top, there’s a beautiful summer piece from Hush that pairs wonderfully with jeans. The denim adds a bit of an edge, and these jagging styles from AND/OR provide a structured yet stretchy fit.
Now, about that cat blouse from Zara! It features a print reminiscent of a Paul & Joe Beauté lipstick case. The fit is relaxed, but there’s a unique drapey front detail that’s both flattering and stylish. Pair it with jeans to keep things from getting too sweet and accessorize with sparkly court shoes for a bit of glam.
Lastly, while not particularly summery, there’s an outfit I put together for those unexpectedly cold days. It involves stretchy black jeggings from Zara paired with Hettie black leather boots from LK Bennett. These boots are smart and feminine, offering a sleek look for winter.
Switching back to warmer weather clothing, there’s a khaki maxi-dress from Karen Millen that’s a bit out of my usual style. Its sleeveless design offers a “50s safari” vibe, making it perfect for a casual, effortless outfit.
That’s it for this season. Stay tuned for more fashion adventures as the seasons change, and we lament the fleeting summer days!
