I get really excited when I discover a budget-friendly foundation that performs like a high-end one. Today, I’m diving into a review of the Maybelline Dream Urban Cover foundation. I was thinking of comparing it to the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, but that might take too long—I want us to enjoy these summer beauty finds before the season slips away!
Maybelline’s foundation is quite the gem. It offers the full coverage you’d expect from a product with SPF 50, yet it’s fresh and lightweight, and it never feels heavy or cakey. Surprisingly, it has a nice sheen, which I didn’t anticipate, as I expected a more matte finish. It stays on well throughout the day, so you’ll definitely need to double cleanse at night to remove it completely.
What really stands out about the Dream Urban Cover? It’s priced at just £10.99, and it includes broad spectrum SPF 50, which is rare in foundations. The only ones I can think of with similar SPF levels are Clarins Everlasting Cushion and the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, while most others only have SPF 15-25.
Here’s the catch: to achieve the stated SPF, you need to apply quite a bit—about half a teaspoon for your face. That’s more product than you’d typically use, which is a common issue with makeup SPF. But with the right amount, the coverage is impressive without looking overdone.
Both Maybelline and IT Cosmetics have high SPF content if applied properly. While applying that much may not feel as effortless, it’s not just a critique—it’s similar with other sunscreens too. For me, using a bit less than recommended gives the best feel and finish while still providing decent sun protection for day-to-day activities like popping out for lunch or a commute.
The Maybelline Dream Urban Cover provides a lovely even tone (I use shade 116), enhancing my complexion by reducing redness and dark circles. The full coverage isn’t extreme—you’d still need a concealer for perfect spot coverage—but it offers more than just medium coverage. The finish is slightly sheeny with a soft, velvety texture—not quite matte or dewy, just a nice balance.
So, who is this foundation for? It’s ideal for people with normal to dry skin who want good coverage, a light feel, and a subtle glow. It might not beat L’Oreal’s Pro Glow for radiance and texture, but the added SPF 50 is a big plus for many buyers. There are plenty of other foundations that offer great results at a similar price, but few include such a high SPF.
How important is sun protection in your foundation choice? Does added SPF make you more likely to purchase, or do you stick with a separate sunscreen? You can find Maybelline Dream Urban Cover in twenty shades for £10.99 at Boots. If you want to see it in action, check out my IGTV video on @modelrecommends on Instagram.
