I’ve been busy working on getting my app, The Night Feed, ready to launch, but I had to pause to share my thoughts on this new SPF from Elizabeth Arden. The Great 8 Eight Hour Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF35 is absolutely delightful. It’s incredibly light and fresh, absorbs quickly, yet manages to be surprisingly hydrating. The only downside might be if the subtle fragrance isn’t to your taste.
The Great 8, as I’ll refer to it to save us both some typing, is the latest addition to Elizabeth Arden’s sun protection lineup. They already offer some comprehensive options, like the Eight Hour Cream SPF50, which is luxurious and rich, but the Great 8 brings something new with its fresh and lightweight feel.
Interestingly, I had been planning to write about Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage City Smart SPF50, which is deeply moisturizing and long-lasting, but the Great 8 has made such an impression that it took priority. While the City Smart offers a higher SPF and is great for dry skin, the Great 8 is effortless to wear. It’s so minimal and refreshing, feeling almost like there’s nothing on your skin.
While you might not feel it, you’re getting broad-spectrum sun protection, a reliable makeup primer, and a hydrating moisturizer that helps control oil and guards against free radical damage and blue and infrared light. It’s an impressive multitasker.
Some might find discussions of blue and infrared light a bit technical, but they do affect us in everyday life, particularly from the sun. While very dry skin types might still prefer the City Smart, the Great 8 offers a delightful summer skincare choice and feels wonderfully light compared to heavier creams.
Those with oily skin might find the Great 8 particularly pleasing, thanks to its slightly matte finish and balanced hydration. It manages to provide a silky-smooth, luxurious feel without being sticky or greasy.
To sum up, if you’re searching for a daily moisturizer with SPF, that feels barely there, hydrates without the oiliness, works well under makeup, and offers a fresh, cooling texture, the Great 8 should be on your radar.
