Once again, we’re talking about coats, but this time, they’re lighter alternatives to the classic leather jacket I mentioned earlier in the week. These are easy-to-wear pieces, much like a cardigan or a plaid shirt. They’re just right for late spring, when the weather is unpredictable, and handy throughout summer for those cool evenings or sudden chilly days when having a layer is necessary. These options have been tested with a big pregnancy bump (can’t button them up, of course), but they look great left open and will look perfect on my regular body once I can wear them properly.
The Kate Moss Inspired Festival Jacket
This jacket isn’t actually linked to Kate Moss—it’s not from her Topshop collection, nor has she ever modeled it. However, it reminds me of her festival-going days when she’d pair similar styles with denim shorts. It’s more like a shirt than a proper jacket since it’s unlined and just a single layer of soft fabric, but it has those jacket-like qualities that make for a great extra layer. I adore the military details and super-soft texture. You can check it out on Next’s website.
The Chunky Cardigan Coat
This piece is quite unique—it’s a mix of a “moto” jacket and a chunky cardigan, adding a cool twist to casual outfits. If you’re going for the skinny-black-jeans-with-motorbike-boots look, but it’s too warm for leather, this jacket is a more practical option. It also pairs nicely with pretty skirts and cute tank tops. Although I can’t fit into anything dainty at the moment, I’ve been imagining stylish combinations by showcasing them on the wall. I’m eager to wear this jacket soon. When zipped up fully, the collar becomes a funnel-neck, which is quite trendy, so you have several styling options. This lovely piece is called the “Jobeth” sweater by Velvet by Graham and Spencer, available at Matches.com and Bliss Boutiques.
The Chanel-Esque Daytime Knitted Jacket
This delightful knitted jacket has a touch of that Chanel charm. It looks fantastic with blue jeans and small ballet shoes. It’s unstructured and soft, so you don’t have to worry about wrinkles or losing the shape of the shoulders when you decide to take it off and stash it in your bag. It still manages to make a basic outfit look quite chic—pairing it with a classic white tee looks stunning. The Crop Knit Jacket is available at Hush for £80. UPDATE: Since writing this, the Hush jacket has sold out, but they still have the multi-color cardigan in a similar shape, though it’s not as jacket-like. Apologies for the delay in publishing this post.
