I might be a bit late to update my makeup for the season, but with the UK expecting a mini heatwave next week, I’m not ready to let go of summer just yet! I mean, who says we have to strictly follow the seasons? For me, autumn doesn’t really start until October rolls around.
While officially autumn started on September 1st according to the meteorological calendar, I prefer that version. Going by the astronomical one, autumn stretches too close to Christmas, which should be all about winter vibes, like “Home Alone” and frosted windows, not pumpkins and falling leaves.
I’m very much a spring and summer person, and I just manage through the colder months with lots of layering. From October to May, I’m practically in hibernation mode, both mentally and physically.
So, what’s in my makeup bag? It’s pretty simple. There’s an amazing tinted moisturizer with a couple of glam base products and something a bit sultry for the eyes. The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is a classic—it’s incredibly moisturizing and offers surprisingly good coverage for a tinted moisturizer. It’s lightweight and has great staying power.
Another favorite is the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Palette. It’s a sculpting duo that instantly transforms your cheekbones. Even if contouring isn’t your thing, a slight touch with the bronzer gives your face an elegant finish.
I usually skip concealer unless my base is really light. In that case, my go-to is the Vanish Airbrush Concealer from Hourglass. It’s creamy, blends easily, and provides excellent coverage without looking heavy.
Here’s a little twist: using lipstick as blush. It’s not foolproof—lipsticks with too much sheen can be tricky—but it’s an easy way to match your cheeks to your lips for a seamless look. I used L’Oreal’s Color Riche Shine in a warm beige, which may not be perfect as a blush, but works wonderfully as a versatile lip color.
For the eyes, a touch of Trinny Eye2Eye Shadow and a light coat of my barely-there summer mascara, Suqqu Natural Curl, complete the look. Even though this mascara has been replaced by a new version, it still does the job well. As for brows, I keep them tidy with either Benefit’s Gimme Brow or Glossier’s Boy Brow, both of which are excellent for adding fullness and shape.
That’s my makeup rundown. If you want to see it in action, feel free to ask questions in the comments below!
