Here’s a charming update for your autumn wardrobe: a beautiful silk shirt just perfect for these transitioning days from summer to autumn. It works great on its own now and can easily be layered under cozy cardigans as the weather cools. Unlike some silk shirts that aren’t up to the challenge of layering because they’re too delicate, this one from Boden is different. It holds its shape without getting all wrinkled.
One of the standout features is the color-block cuffs and collar, which make it ideal for layering. Picture that vibrant ochre shade showing just a bit over a plain grey cashmere jumper—it’s simply delightful. The print is a unique mix of autumn browns and yellows on a lovely pink background, and I’ve received loads of compliments on it.
I’ve got quite a collection of silk shirts, especially from a time when I was snagging discounted Equipment shirts, but this particular Boden shirt has unexpectedly attracted the most attention. It’s intriguing because my other pieces, which are a bit more “rock ‘n’ roll” with edgy prints, seemed more my style. However, there’s something very comfortable and easygoing about this design.
The pattern is called Milkshake, Meadow—yes, there’s a comma, which threw me off at first. It’s an intriguing name, conjuring up odd images. Despite the cryptic name, it’s captivating, and my love for both milkshakes and meadows clinched it for me.
If I were to describe it, I’d say it’s more like Orla Kiely’s style than anything else. I’d probably struggle to name designs if I had a shop. Maybe “autumn print with ochre accents,” but that’s hardly exciting.
Moving on, you can find this silk shirt at Boden; it’s £110. I used a 10% discount code from a catalog that landed at my door and grabbed a size 10, which fits perfectly—even though I usually wear a size 12 due to my 30E bust. It’s 100% silk, but the pattern makes accidental stains less daunting, surprisingly more wearable than a solid silk color, which I tend to ruin in a heartbeat.
This reminds me of when I wore a new silk shirt on a cooking show and ended up splattering it in minutes—it’s still tucked away somewhere, despite failing all cleaning attempts.
Quick note: no idea why I included pictures of my cat, Mr. Bear, here—he was just around. Though he’s huge for a British Shorthair, he’s apparently not overweight. It’s a bit surprising since he’s almost my size, so I sometimes wonder if he sneaks in some treats when we aren’t watching.
