After what felt like the best summer ever (at least for me—I’ve heard stories about the legendary summer of ‘76 being hotter and longer), we’re diving headfirst into autumn. Leaves are falling, nights are getting longer, and we’re all trying to avoid bringing up Christmas until it feels right. But let’s be real—it’s tough not to think about Christmas, mainly because what else is there to look forward to during these dreary months? Sure, we can enjoy the crisp air and beautiful colors, and some might call this chance to “hibernate” a perk, but really, it’s just something we have to endure. Wearing tights isn’t much of a perk either—they’re either slipping down or tearing, and they leave my skin all dry and flaky, though I’ll admit they do enhance the look of my legs.
Speaking of dry skin, that’s what I want to focus on. I’ve been trying the AVEENO® Dermexa range designed to soothe and moisturize even the driest skin. Many of you might already know of AVEENO® products, but the Dermexa range is particularly effective for really dry, uncomfortable skin, packed with emollients for long-lasting relief.
I stumbled upon this range while looking for something for Angelica’s eczema-prone skin. Before using Dermexa, we had this awful greasy moisturizer for her that was unpleasant to apply. The Dermexa Fast and Long-Lasting Balm was a game changer. It kept her skin moisturized overnight without the greasy feel.
I also started using it on my hands, noticing how soft they felt by morning. As for my own shins, which get itchy and scaly once it gets cold, I’ve been using the Dermexa Balm and the lighter Daily Emollient Cream post-shower. Both feature Colloidal Oatmeal and Avenanthramides, known for soothing skin, and ceramides that strengthen its barrier. So, they deliver immediate relief and, over time, help the skin retain moisture and protect itself.
Before Angelica’s eczema, I never thought to use targeted products for my dry shins, but now I’m amazed at how effective these solutions are. The Dermexa range is easy to find and affordable, so you can apply it liberally and keep everyone’s skin happy. It’s a relief it’s suitable for everyone—I’ve been using it on Ted’s legs too, who seems to have inherited my dry skin trait.
Surprisingly, neither the Balm nor the Emollient Cream leaves a greasy residue. While the balm quickly absorbs, leaving skin moisturized without oiliness, the cream, despite its lighter texture, forms a comfortable barrier. It’s reassuring to use a product that genuinely eases itchiness and dryness, unlike some creams that seem to vanish without a trace of benefit.
I nearly forgot to mention the Dermexa Daily Emollient Body Wash, which includes the same soothing ingredients as the creams. Unlike many mainstream body washes, it doesn’t dry out your skin. It’s honestly surprising how few non-drying body washes are available. Overall, the AVEENO® Dermexa range is a fantastic everyday solution for dry, itchy skin, including those prone to eczema, without being too heavy for the rest of the family. It’s a must-have for anyone in need of serious skin care.
