If you’re looking for an effective yet affordable face moisturizer, CeraVe’s Moisturising Lotion might just be what you need. It’s light, hydrating, and thoughtfully created, making it a good match for sensitive, itchy, or very dry skin, though it works well for anyone. The lotion comes in a large pump bottle, giving it the appearance of a body lotion, but it’s actually fantastic for hydrating your face. There’s also a richer cream option for extremely dry areas like scaly shins, which I’ll touch on later.
CeraVe is a popular American skincare brand recommended by dermatologists and often tops beauty bestseller lists. Its products are formulated with lipids and ceramides to repair and strengthen the skin’s barrier, benefiting those with dry or compromised skin. In the U.S., CeraVe boasts more products approved by the National Eczema Association than any other brand.
I recently tried this lotion on my daughter Angelica’s eczema, which typically develops around her elbow and knee creases. Although it wasn’t the prescribed cream (due to a mix-up with my pharmacy visits), I found the CeraVe lotion to be a pleasant alternative to the greasier Epaderm ointment. Her main treatment cream, Elidel, is lightweight but is used primarily for flare-ups. For daily care, I aim to keep her skin moisturized and am always exploring new products.
While on holiday, I took the CeraVe lotion for Angelica’s skin but ended up using it on my face as well. I hadn’t packed enough face cream, so I needed something to follow my retinol treatment. At first, I thought the lotion might not be rich enough, but it performed wonderfully despite its lightweight, fresh-feeling texture. If your skin is extremely dry and rough and you prefer a heavier cream, you might want to try something else, perhaps a cream from the same range. However, if you desire hydration without greasiness, this lotion is perfect.
Fragrance-free and straightforward, it works great under makeup, soothes skin after sun exposure, and provides a simple option to layer over acid toners or retinol creams before bed. Although using a face cream that resembles a body lotion feels a bit unusual, if the packaging were different and the price higher, its performance would compare well to pricier options like La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Fluid.
For under ten pounds, you get a significant amount of lightweight moisturizer. It’s a steal and makes my list of top budget skincare buys. Look for CeraVe Moisturising Lotion at Boots, and while at it, their cleanser is worth trying too—it cleans effectively without stripping the skin.
Ingredients in the lotion include water, glycerin, various alcohols, ceramides, and other components designed to nourish and protect the skin’s barrier.
