I’ve had a bit of a rough time when it comes to testing mascaras. I’m quite particular about what I use on my lashes, so I end up disliking most mascaras quickly and become frustrated when I have to try out numerous ones. I like my mascaras to add volume without being too hard to remove and prefer a brush that’s precise enough not to make a mess but still big enough to create lift and length. Since I am picky, I tend to discard most samples after just a couple of uses. Plus, my eyes are sensitive, so I can only try one or two mascaras in a day before my eyes start watering and the area gets irritated. This makes the process slow and tedious, and I only get the motivation for it once in a while.
Luckily for those interested in mascaras, it’s that time again, and I’ve been enduring some discomfort to bring you the best new luxury mascara releases. Initially, I considered rating them on different aspects like longevity and ease of application, but honestly, they’re all black, hard to remove, and wand preferences vary from person to person.
If, like me, you have flat, fine, and light lashes and often end up with product on your eyelids, you might appreciate these new options as much as I do.
1. Charlotte Tilbury Push Up Lashes Mascara: This one is ideal for flat lashes that need some upward oomph. It loads plenty of mascara at the lash base and then adds volume through to the tips. It’s the messiest of the four, so be prepared to spend some time tidying up after applying. It does have some minor flaking towards the end of the day, but it’s nothing too noticeable.
2. Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara: This might be my favorite. While I’m unsure if it’s better than Dior’s Pump ‘n’ Volume, which is one of the best mascaras ever, it comes close. Pump ‘n’ Volume can coat every lash without clumping, and the Iconic Overcurl is just a bit more refined. I probably need to compare them side by side.
3. Marc Jacobs At Lash’d Mascara: This one’s great for those with smaller lashes, as the brush is slightly smaller. It causes the least amount of mess on the lids but still offers impressive volume and lash separation. This mascara is perfect for those who dislike when lashes clump together, forming a “lash-fan.” This can lead to the tedious task of separating them, often requiring something sharp, which can end with an unfortunate eye mishap.
4. NARS Climax Extreme Mascara: Despite its name, it delivers excellent volume and a matte finish on the lashes. One coat might suffice, although adding a second enhances the effect.
I’ll soon be reviewing some budget-friendly options as well. Testing these mascaras has left my under-eye skin feeling quite raw, as if it’s been scrubbed with a pad.
