So, here’s the scoop: I’ve been using the Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation daily for the past two weeks, and I have to say, it’s pretty impressive. The only reason I’m not wearing it right now is that I was traveling and needed to keep my makeup bag light—my laptop alone is heavy enough. The foundation comes in a stylish glass bottle, which feels luxurious but is a lot heavier compared to my current affordable go-to, L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro Glow.
Flower Beauty is definitely giving L’Oreal some competition with its softly luminous finish. It’s just as radiant, maybe even a smidge glossier, and it doesn’t contain alcohol. This might make it feel a bit heavier than Pro Glow, but if you love a rich, buttery sensation on your skin, this one’s a winner.
A quick tip: Layer an intense hyaluronic serum and then Darphin’s 8 Flower Nectar Oil Cream under your foundation to make any base feel incredibly plump. If you prefer less coverage with a juicy texture, Clinique’s Even Better Glow is a nice choice.
The Flower Beauty line was created by Drew Barrymore, whom I find quite charming. She seems down-to-earth and fun, which is refreshing in Hollywood. After doing a bit of research, I found that her beauty line has been available in the U.S. for some time but has only recently come to the U.K.
Superdrug has picked up some of her products, and the foundation has become my favorite. However, they initially offered only five shades, which is an issue that needs to be addressed. Five shades might work for a sheer BB cream, but with a medium-to-full coverage foundation, you need more variety for a perfect match.
If Superdrug added all twelve shades, I’d say the Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation deserves a spot in your makeup collection. It’s not for those seeking a completely matte finish, but for nearly everyone else, it’s a lovely, high-coverage addition that gives your skin a beautiful, dewy glow.
This foundation makes your skin look naturally radiant, without any powdery look or settling into fine lines. It holds up well throughout a standard workday (say, from 7 am to 8 pm) without any noticeable slipping. Although it doesn’t set quite as well as L’Oreal’s Pro Glow, it’s still comfortable and flexible.
The coverage is medium, so while it might not completely cover the darkest circles or reddest blemishes, it’s buildable for areas where you need it. The shade I have, Natural Beige, is slightly off for me. If I had a better match, I could easily blend it in with a damp sponge where needed. The next lighter shade at Superdrug seems too light, though I’m guessing I might be an Ivory.
Despite some missteps, like planting my hand on my chin in all my after shots, the foundation’s finish is stunning—part sheen, part gloss. It offers fairly comprehensive coverage, evening out skin tone and almost erasing blemishes and circles.
While the shade isn’t perfect, I’m still wearing it because I adore the texture and finish. It’s a testament to how much I like the product that I’m willing to overlook the wrong shade.
All in all, it’s a beautiful product—almost invisible even up close, with a flawless yet natural effect. Once Superdrug stocks the full shade range, it’s definitely a yes from me.
