I wasn’t ready for this video at all. I was staying overnight at Heckfield Place, which is a lovely new hotel, by the way. The next morning, despite having a slight hangover, I decided to film myself applying all the makeup I had with me. It ended up being a strange mix that spilled out of my bag: a bright orange eyeshadow from Topshop, a foundation by Guerlain that I hadn’t really tried before, and a bunch of eye brushes that weren’t quite the right shape or size for what I had in mind.
Even though the makeup wasn’t exactly what I’ve been using lately, sometimes you just have to roll with it, right? What’s life without a bit of unpredictable fun—a long-lasting black eye crayon, shaky hands, and no makeup remover to fix the slip-ups?
If I’d been prepared and not dealing with shaky hands and a foggy head, I’m pretty sure I could’ve put together an impressive smoky-eye look. Maybe even with a cut crease—whatever that is—an ombré lip, and contouring sharp enough to impress Kim Kardashian. But the red wine the night before was just too good to pass up, and I ended up resembling a much tamer version of Alice Cooper.
So, hit play on the video to see a quick review of Clinique’s Even Better Refresh foundation and Guerlain’s new L’Essentiel foundation. There’s also a demo of the Charlotte Tilbury Dreamgasm eye palette and a bit of a rave about a face brush that’s no longer available, which is a shame because it’s a fantastic brush, though it costs as much as a trip to the Maldives.
Below the video, you’ll find a list of products if you’re interested in skipping ahead or just want to hear about them with my slightly huskier voice than usual.
