I’ve been wanting to write about Chanel’s Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayons for some time, and the arrival of what might be my perfect lipstick shade—”Discretion” from the AW18 collection—made it more pressing. This shade is simply amazing; it’s a pale peachy-nude that looks creamy and full even with its matte finish.
Chanel’s Jumbo Lip Crayons are already fantastic due to their smooth texture and easy application. They glide on so effortlessly, almost like a liquid rather than a solid crayon, and they last quite a while without the dryness you often get with other products. While Chanel’s regular Jumbo Crayon has a polished sheen, the matte version from the Le Mat de Chanel collection offers a modern, subtle flatness, resembling a high-pigment lipstick that’s been gently blotted.
Light shades can be tricky—the wrong texture can make your natural lip color show through or make your lips look too chalky and lifeless. If it’s too waxy, the lipstick can look thick and unnatural, like plasticine. The new Rouge Crayon de Couleur Mat avoids all these issues. It glides on smoothly and feels like a soft veil of concentrated color on your lips.
One of the best features of this Jumbo Crayon is its dual purpose as both a liner and a lipstick, which is great for someone like me who often forgets to pack a lip liner. This dual function simplifies my makeup routine.
The only minor downside to this luxurious lip product is that it never completely sets. It doesn’t smudge like an uncooked pizza sauce but doesn’t hold firm like those 24-hour stay-put lipsticks either. Personally, I don’t mind a bit of movement, but if you’re looking for something more permanent, you might want to explore other options.
Chanel’s new Jumbo Longwear Matte Lip Crayon is available online for £31, and aside from the lovely “Discretion,” I also adore the shade “Provocation,” a vibrant orange-red that looks stunning on sun-kissed skin.
