Last week, two things happened that really caught my attention. Normally, these kinds of incidents wouldn’t be worth discussing, but they left a small but notable impact on my day. Both were embarrassing, though in different ways.
First, somehow, a person’s spit ended up in my nostril. They were speaking to me, and a stray fleck of saliva managed to travel from their mouth into my nasal passage. I was sitting while they were standing, so logically, it should have landed on my head or nose. Instead, it flew downward and made a sharp turn to end up in my nostril. The only explanation I have is that I must have inhaled at just the right moment for this to happen.
I’m particularly squeamish about other people’s spit coming into contact with me. While I’m okay with dealing with a lot of gross things like cleaning up kids’ messes, spit just feels like a teeming mass of germs and bacteria that I can’t handle. I know we all have saliva, and it’s normal, but I prefer it stays confined inside the mouth.
The spit stayed put in my nostril for about thirty-three seconds because my hands were immobilized (I was getting my hair and makeup done, and my nails were being painted). Once I was able to use my hands, the spit had dried, and I couldn’t identify exactly where it landed. I considered using sanitizer but decided against it, having learned a lesson after a perfume incident when I was younger.
The second incident was about my nipples unexpectedly becoming noticeable while I was on a set. They wouldn’t settle down, which was awkward, especially since I was on camera. I know this isn’t usually a big deal, but it reminded me of my teenage years when it was embarrassing if anyone pointed out a girl’s nipples. In this situation, despite trying to ignore it, the camera crew made the moment even more uncomfortable for me.
Eventually, I noticed the chilly breeze through a nearby window and the unusual texture of the bra I was wearing might have contributed to the situation. I’m hoping my mom doesn’t read this, as these topics get a bit too personal.
On a positive note, during my time in the makeup chair, I discovered two great makeup tips from the French artists. Their technique with foundation is truly impressive, giving an incredibly natural look. I’m excited to try these tips out and share them in a video soon.
