This post isn’t complicated or groundbreaking—just basic math and a few fantastic, straightforward ingredients. Let me show you how to make a luxurious and effective bath soak for about fifty pence per use. This soak genuinely relaxes me, helps me sleep, soothes my sore muscles from workouts, and mentally transports me to an exotic locale.
The bath soak is customizable, so I’ll give you some starting options. Whether you prefer a rose scent or a bit of frankincense to clear your mind, these versions will make you feel like you’re unwinding in a fancy spa, complete with fluffy robes.
This isn’t just a “thrifty beauty hack,” although it does save money. I’ve been raving about this bath soak for months, and it’s time to share it!
The bath soak has two main components: Epsom salts and high-quality essential oils or a ready-made oil blend. Depending on your choice of oils and their quantity, the price of each soak might increase. However, if you use a beakerful of salts and a few drops of Tisserand oil, it stays around fifty pence.
You get top-notch ingredients at a fraction of the price of store-bought products by buying salts in bulk and adding your own oils. Here’s how to do it:
Salt
The key is using a whole beakerful of salts. After experimenting, I’ve learned that a small amount doesn’t make a difference. I use about 200g of Epsom salts in my bath, which really helps me sleep. If you were to use this quantity with expensive brands like Aveda, it could cost up to £15 per bath. A beakerful holds around 200g, which is enough. I buy my salts from Amazon for as low as £14 for ten kilos. Stick to plain, unperfumed Epsom salts since you’ll add your own oils, and most perfumed ones tend to smell off.
Oils
I usually add a few drops of Frankincense Oil from Aromatherapy Associates, mixed with a carrier oil. When I want to splurge, I add a capful of their Deep Relax Oil, which is pricey but offers fantastic results. Even using a small amount keeps the cost per bath low. But if you opt for more, and your bath price is a pound or two, you’re treating yourself to an exceptional experience with soothing salts and top-quality oils.
Options:
– For ultimate relaxation, try Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax.
– For a regal experience like Marie Antoinette, opt for Neal’s Yard Remedies Rose Absolute Oil.
– For a soothing English garden vibe, use Tisserand’s Lavender Oil.
Tisserand offers a great balance of affordability and quality—just a few drops provide an amazing soak for fifty pence. I prefer rose, frankincense, and lavender oils, mainly due to a bad experience with a eucalyptus and mint blend.
Cost Breakdown:
– 10kg of Epsom salts at £20 provides 40p per 200g of salts.
– A few drops of Tisserand oil cost about 10p, totaling 50p per soak.
Method:
Run the bath, add the salts, then mix the oils with a bit of almond oil before adding them. This prevents the scent from dispersing too quickly. Then relax, or if you’re like me, remember something else you need to do and get out sooner.
What’s your favorite bath indulgence? My nightly soak is a key part of my routine. Let me know if there are any oils or scents I should try!
