I absolutely love a good parka. It’s perfect for wandering around the countryside and also great when you want something comfy to layer over your nicer outfits. I’m really fond of the “parka over party dress” style, which was rocked by Kate Moss and other socialites back in the late nineties. Back then, it was super trendy to toss on an old coat from the Army Surplus Store and wear it over a sequined dress. I never quite nailed that look myself—probably because I used my mom’s anorak instead of a rugged army jacket.
Hush has come out with a delightful winter parka. While it has a military vibe, it’s tailored nicely so that it feels more feminine rather than bulky. The cotton looks genuinely faded, giving the impression it’s been worn for years, and its hem dips down at the front instead of having the usual fishtail at the back, making it appear smarter and easier to style. The feature that stands out most is the bright blue faux-fur trim and cozy fleece lining. Some people love it, while others aren’t as keen. Personally, I think it’s a nice change from the typical beigey-brown fur, and I’ve received loads of compliments on it. My partner jokes that with the hood down, I seem like I’m being carried around by a Muppet. It’s such a well-crafted coat, and I hope they continue making it with different fur color options for those who like to keep things classic.
This parka is priced at £170 at Hush, which is much more affordable than the last one I bought for $750! But to be fair, I’ve worn that one over 500 times, so the cost per wear has been worthwhile. It’s hard to find coats that are both affordable and great quality. While getting ready for my Autumn lookbook video, I purchased three parkas from high-street stores and ended up returning them. One, from a well-known retailer, had such terrible faux-fur that it looked like a chewed-up dog toy! And it wasn’t even that cheap, costing around seventy or eighty quid. So, with coats, you generally get what you pay for. Usually.
