Imagine how thrilled I was when the womenswear brand Me + Em sent me this fantastic georgette maxi dress. It perfectly blends two things I love: dark floral patterns and sporty side stripes. It’s almost as if I designed it myself in a daydream.
Turning a tracksuit into a sheer-sleeved georgette maxi dress isn’t something you see every day, but Me + Em did it brilliantly. They incorporated go-faster stripes, a drawstring waist, and a zipper running from the neck to the chest beautifully. I especially love the zip-up top, which has an almost Victorian Matron feel when closed, thanks to the high, smocked neck. Open it up, and it suddenly looks like a posh floral track top with a funnel neck. It’s smart and stylish.
The first time I wore this stunning maxi dress, I felt an immediate wave of drama. I imagined myself as Lady Macbeth, gliding through her castle with the train of the dress sweeping behind me. Obviously, “athleisure” wasn’t a concept in Macbeth’s time, but if those stripes were trendy back then, I’m sure Lady M would have been a fan. I also felt like the lead in a modern-day Wuthering Heights film, my dress’s georgette fabric fluttering as I ran over the moors. The dress is a perfect mix of a subtle ballgown and a weekend tracksuit, making it incredibly adaptable. You can dress it down with sneakers and a chunky cardigan or jazz it up for a night out.
The dipped hemline adds to its versatility by showing a hint of leg or boot, preventing it from appearing too heavy and giving it an elegant shape suitable for any evening event or party. I’m genuinely in love with this dress, pairing it with old Belstaff boots and a confident stride. While I’ve had these high-heeled boots for years, Belstaff still makes them with lower, comfier heels. I have my beloved black Trialmaster boots for over thirteen years now.
For a more casual day look, I wore the Lady Macbeth dress with trainers. Although priced on the higher side, it’s not the kind of dress for walking the dog or doing chores but is perfect for smart-casual occasions or daytime meetings that demand a bit more effort.
I’m a big fan of wearing nice things even during the day—it makes expensive purchases more worthwhile and prevents them from just sitting in the closet. Wearing the Lady Macbeth Athleisure Dress with comfy trainers during the day is a great way to ensure it gets used. But first, I’ll enjoy wearing it around the house and performing my best Lady Macbeth at the sink.
The Floral Sheer Sleeve Georgette Dress is available at Me + Em for £299. My “R” gold necklace was a thoughtful gift from Edge of Ember, who also offers beautiful rings and earrings. These delicate gold pieces are perfect for those who prefer simple, understated jewelry.
